Dr.AmbedkarHistory

The Ambedkar family (Marathi: आंबेडकर कुटुंब; Hindi: आम्बेडकर परिवार) is a sociopolitical family of India. The Ambedkar family is the family of B. R. Ambedkar (14 April 1891 – 6 December 1956) who was an Indian polymath, human rights activist, the architect of the constitution of India and the founding father of the Republic of India. Ambedkar’s followers and the Indian people started respectfully addressing him as “Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar”, since September 1927, because millions of Indians consider him the “greatest liberator”. “Babasaheb” is a Marathi phrase which means “Respected Father” (Baba = father and Saheb = sir/lord). Currently, Ambedkar’s descendants are working in political, social, religious and other fields.

Ambadawe village is the origin of the Ambedkar family. B. R. Ambedkar’s ancestors lived in this village, and at that time their family name or surname was “Sakpal”.
